Goat’s Milk

If you are looking for a nutritious alternative to cow’s milk then goat’s milk may be an option. Full of vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and easily digestible proteins, its health-boosting benefits are excellent.

We are so fortunate to be able to enjoy raw, grass-fed goats milk right here on the Garden Route. Because the goats are grass-fed and not grain-fed, their milk is high in Omega-6 fatty acids and low in Omega-3’s, contains more bioavailable nutrients and is less inflammatory.

Because the milk is raw and unpasteurised beneficial bacteria strains, enzymes and amino acids our bodies thrive on are retained. We know that pasteurisation kills bacteria, but unfortunately the process does not distinguish between good and bad bacteria and kills off everything in the process. The result is a milk lacking in nutrients and gut-friendly bacteria. Raw milk is the real deal – full of every good, nutritious element our body needs.

Today animals are bulked up with grains and hormones – and while this increases milk production it also produces a less nutrient-rich milk. The pasteurisation and homoginsation processes further alter it, creating a highly inflammatory product. Raw milk products on the other hand are gut-friendly and immune boosting because they contain all the original nutrients, gut-friendly bacteria, enzymes and amino acids.

One other thing that distinguishes this local product is that it does not have a strong, wild flavour. This could be for a variety of reasons including the goat’s diet and access to nutritious plants, how the milk is handled and quickly chilled, and that the ram is separated from the milking herd.

The result is a very palatable milk – and cheese too! The chevin made from the goat’s milk is like a creamy cottage cheese and is super mild. These are what we consider ‘guilt-free’ foods – the ones you can eat with complete peace of mind knowing they are unadulterated and pure and so good for you.

PS: Easy to digest, wonderfully nutritious and absolutely delicious, our raw goat’s milk is frozen immediately to preserve all its goodness and can be defrosted in the fridge.
